Green Development
The Community Environmental Center (CEC) seeks to provide building performance and environmental services for residents in the New York metropolitan area. Whether you own a home or apartment building, or are working on new development, they can assist you with creating healthier, efficient and more environmentally friendly living and working spaces.
Check out their non-profit building supply store, Build It Green!, which sells salvaged and surplus building materials — products at half or below their new price — helping keep perfectly useful material out of landfills.
Also promoting green development, GreenHomeNYC is a community-oriented, volunteer-run organization, focusing on sustainable urban buildings. They have a monthly Green Building Forum, free and open to the public, featuring presentations by green building practitioners followed by discussion.
Other NYC green building resources include:
- NYCWasteLe$$ Green Building section
- NYC Dept. of Design & Construction: Office of Sustainable Design
- NY State Dept. of Environmental Conservation: Green Building Initiative
- NY State Energy Research & Development Authority: Green Building Services
In the future we hope to have more information about green homes and sustainable development. In the meantime, check out our ideas for individual greener living, and consider joining us to help make the whole community more livable.
Please share your ideas and success with us.
